Introducing: Notepad

(No, this is not an Apple press release)

If you’ve been watching my Twitter profile slowly warp into something you might expect from a 40-something year old, you’re probably wondering whats going on. I’ve been posting a bunch of articles I find fascinating, and although that might not be the affordance* for my particular demographic on Twitter, I’m having a great time doing it.

I absolutely love my major and as a senior slowly starting to realize this will all slip through my fingers in a few months, I’m loving geeking out for the last breaths of my formal education (fine, maybe I’m being dramatic- I graduate in May. But it’s all becoming so REAL).

With that being said, I want to share what I’m learning with you in this blog series “Notepad”- half so you can learn along with me, but also half so I can look back and remember what the heck I was doing in school and don’t feel as though I’m desperately forgetting more and more the older I get. But I’ll save that anxiety for another time.

It won’t be too serious, mostly just lists that I write in class of things that stand out to me or I want to share with my parents when I get home from class. Call me a nerd all you want- I will revel in that title for one last year.

If there are certain topics from my education-track*** you are interested in me covering, comment them on this post! I want this to be a fun series with snippets of my Advertising that authentically stand out to me or I consider especially notable, but I’m always open to your ideas or requests.

*Affordances= properties of an object or environment that permit social actions. In other words, how social media platforms want you to use their platform- they are designed so you act a certain way on them.
**A big goal of mine is to take classes for the rest of my life, but since I have no plans to go to grad school at the moment, this is the last time where being a student is considered my “career”.
***I am a senior in S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications majoring in Advertising with an emphasis in Digital and minoring in the iSchool’s Information Management and Technology program.

  1. Hey Margot! I am a frequent watcher of Youtube videos and have watched videos similar this one, many college students and young adult “days in the life…”. I have been subscribed to your channel for a decent 2 years or so and just wanted to say how much I find your personality and videos uniquely different and so much more enjoyable to watch than many others. It definitely has something to do with how you treat your videos as not just a place to show your fun and adventures, but also a job and a responsibility that is always held to the highest standards. Your content always shows your sense of diligence and gives me, a 15 year-old high school freshman, someone to look up to when I am thinking about my future and who I want to be. I truly admire all the hard-work and maturity you put towards every job, internship, meeting, essay, and Youtube video. Thank you so much for letting me and all your media family tag along through the days of you life, and thank you as well for never not being 100% real with us. It is very well appreciated.
