I’ve been taking advantage of my “official” unemployment this summer- I’ve made trips to Boston, Cape Cod, Vermont, New York City, and now, Florida. After seeing a friend from school in the city when she came up for another friend’s birthday, I immediately invited myself to stay at her house in Fort Lauderdale and booked tickets for a weekend in August.
Right when I stepped out of the airport, I was greeted by a wave of humidity and my friend, Ivy, and her mom. Not long after, I was greeted by her dog, Nala. (Spoiler alert: Nala and I are now in love and we have a LDR.)
Needless to say, I had an incredible time and want to share the trip with you via blog! (Link to FL video at bottom).
Friday
This was my first full day after arriving at Ivy’s house at 1:00 AM from my flight the night before. We picked up her friend, Lora Lee, and headed for the W Fort Lauderdale, a gorgeous hotel on the beach near Las Olas. We ended the day at Brio’s, an easy Italian restaurant with vegan pesto pasta.
Saturday
This was our big day… We started the day early and headed to Ivy’s aunt’s boat. After a fun & choppy ride we stopped at a beach before heading to a sandbar. A quintessential Florida day.
Later that night we went to Rockwell in Downtown Miami. I survived a Miami night out? Kind of..?
Sunday
Sunday was a lowkey day. A much needed, relaxing, lowkey day in bed bonding with Nala. For dinner, Ivy and I joined her parents for an incredible tapas style dinner at S3 Fort Lauderdale.

Monday
My last day! Boo.
Ivy took me back to Miami where we went to the Wynwood Walls & Art District. We also stopped at Zak the Baker and picked up treats for her family and thirst quenchers for ourselves.

After Wynwood we headed over to Sunset Harbour and were treated to lunch at DIRT, a brand new modern, fresh, local, aesthetically pleasing lunch spot where they cater to all diets (including vegan). I got the Lavender Latte , Spring Poke Bowl (vegan sub); Ivy got the Umami Spinach Salad, Matcha Lemonade, and we split a Vegan Zak the Baker Lemon Poppy Seed slice. Yeah. To die for.
Overall, this trip was incredible and I had the best time exploring Florida with Ivy and her family. Headed back to FL in November to visit family!
